Exiting a company on an emotional high is simple in the beginning but overall really hard to do…
It might feel great when you leave for the first few days but eventually, that feeling will wear off and it can be days to weeks after when you start realizing all of the work that comes with trying to rebuild your network, update your resume, search for new opportunities, and land an interview. Dusting off the skills that might have laid dormant for a while can be very challenging.
When you think about quitting there are pros and cons associated with exiting a company. We cannot stress enough how important it is to set aside time to develop a plan, not just any plan but an intentional plan to make sure that you are putting your best foot forward in your career search to land you in a better position than the current one you’re in.
The emotional high of quitting can and will wear off quicker than you will expect. The more preparation and planning you can do while you’re currently employed, in your own time, the better off you’ll be. Some job hunts can take a while, make sure you’re not only mentally prepared for what’s to come but it’s also important to make sure you are financially prepared.
“Make a plan, set some goals, execute!”

- Do I have enough in my savings if I find myself still on the job hunt 6-7 months down the road?
- What about the benefits? Health insurance? 401k? PTO? Flexibility? Work equipment?
- Do I have a support system?
- Do you have a personal and professional support system to help me navigate through the emotional rollercoaster often accompanied by a job search?
- What if my manager counteroffers?
- Is a counteroffer something I’m willing to consider?

- Flexibility to work from home?
- Do I want to close this door and move on?
